Ferguson confirms Macheda can leave on-loan

Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed plans to send Kiko Macheda away on-loan.
Ferguson is anxious to stress the move is purely short-term and that Macheda has a big Old Trafford future.
"I had a chat with Federico and explained the Welbeck situation," said Ferguson. "It can pan out exactly the same for him. It would be the same thing, going to a club, getting that experience for six months and coming back to us a better player.
"The reason we let Danny Welbeck and Mame Biram Diouf go was that they are young and they need games. And with Welbeck it has proved the point that through consistent, regular football, you can progress dramatically.
"Okay, in the previous two years he played in two cup finals and an FA Cup semi-final. But in a consistent nature he didn't have enough football to produce the kind of performances we are seeing now. He has been fantastic for Sunderland and must eventually get in the England squad. That is exactly what we wanted."

David De Gea NO longer on United's radar.

Sir Alex Ferguson is set to end his interest in Atletico Madrid goalkeeper David De Gea.
The Daily Star says Ferguson has sent scouts to watch Atletico Madrid’s highly-rated stopper with a summer swoop in mind.
But De Gea, 20, has now pledged his future to the La Liga outfit, forcing Fergie into looking elsewhere for a long-term replacement for the veteran Dutchman.
Schalke star Manuel Neuer, Ranger's Allan McGregor and Liverpool stopper pepe reina are on United's radar.

Alexis Sanchez hopes to transfer to Man Utd when he is good enough.

Udinese wing ace Alexis Sanchez has declared an ambition to play in England.
The Chile international is a confirmed long-term target for Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson.
:I like English football more because they go a thousand miles per hour, never stop, like me," he told Gazzetta dello Sport.
"But for now it is a problem that I pose, the contract (with Udinese) expires in 2015. It is necessary that I score more goals, assists are not enough for me. Then I have to learn to control better myself.
"I hope to score 10 goals, so maybe I’ll help Udinese to qualify for Europe. Also the Champions League is a possible achievement. And if we finish in the top four you can be sure that I won’t move."
Asked specifically about Manchester United’s interest, he said: "It’s nice to know that I am valued and I’d like to play in a big club but another season with Udinese should be good for me because I still lack a final piece for the final leap."

New Year Surprise: Man Utd make Fiorentina contact for Gilardino

Manchester United have made contact with Fiorentina about Alberto Gilardino's situation.
Gazzetta dello Sport says Fiorentina have been approached by United representatives about the Italian striker's availability this week.
It's understood Gilardino is under consideration by United manager Sir Alex Ferguson as a like-for-like alternative for Dimitar Berbatov. Gila's performances against Liverpool last season remain a lasting memory for Ferguson.
Juventus are in talks with Fiorentina about a deal for the striker, a self-confessed Bianconeri fan, but they have been warned about United's late interest.
A swap involving United youngster Kiko Macheda has been raised, though the player's agent insists Ferguson is counting on the Italy U21 international long-term.

Ferguson regrets holding back bidding for Gareth Bale

Sir Alex Ferguson is regretting not pulling the trigger on a bid for Tottenham ace Gareth Bale earlier this year.
Bale has been one the Premier League’s players of the year.
He inspired Tottenham’s qualification for the Champions League and then shot to European fame with two superb displays against Inter Milan.
The Daily Express says Manchester United considered a £20million bid for Bale, 21, last summer and he is now worth double that figure, with Real Madrid and Manchester City among a long list of admirers.
Bale said: “It has been a great year but all I have done is concentrate hard and improve my game. I just want to keep going and keep improving.
“I’ll keep working hard on and off the pitch and just concentrate on putting in the performances for Tottenham. If I can keep helping the team, that is the best thing that can happen.”

Fletcher reveals the secret that keep Man Utd on top!

Darren Fletcher says the club's devotion to cutting edge sports science is making a difference.
Fletcher has warned United’s rivals his team-mates are fitter than ever and ready for a title push in the New Year.
The midfielder told the Manchester Evening News: “We have fantastic facilities at Carrington right down to the fine detail of wearing heart-rate monitors every day. In the last 18 months or so the club has also introduced injury-prevention work. It is all new revolutionary stuff and it makes a difference.”

Chris Smalling admits he grew up idolising Arsenal

Chris Smalling admits he grew up idolising Arsenal.
Smalling is likely to be on the bench for the big game.
"I was a big Arsenal fan," he told theIndependent. "Yes, I certainly watched quite a few games at Highbury when I got the chance and I always kept a close eye on Tony Adams."
Smalling reveals Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger made a late move to trump United for him while still at Fulham.
"I think I already had a gut feeling that I wanted to go to United [when Wenger got in touch]," Smalling says. "Once I'd got to meet [Ferguson] and was able to speak to him face to face about his vision for me, I knew.
With a club like this there was only one thought. And in terms of some of the other players here: there's an English core and that was great. The idea of linking up with Rio [Ferdinand] really appealed."

Ex-Man Utd chairman Edwards on rejecting Batistuta, Eriksson replacing Ferguson

Former Manchester United chairman Martin Edwards has revealed how he blocked Sir Alex from buying Gabriel Batistuta.
Edwards insists it was one of the few times the pair of them disagreed.
“His wages would have destroyed our wage structure but Alex and I didn’t have many differences. It’s been said we didn’t get on but that’s nonsense,” Edwards told the Sunday Express.
So much so that United’s former chairman was delighted when Ferguson changed his mind about retiring eight years ago.
“Alex indicated he wanted to go at the end of the season and everything was agreed to bring in Sven-Goran Eriksson. Alex changed his mind and everything with Sven was unagreed!”
Edwards also revealed how Sir Matt Busby was against the fee United paid West Bromwich Albion for Bryan Robson.
“Matt didn’t agree with the £1.5million fee for Bryan Robson. He thought it was a ridiculous amount to pay for a player. You could only imagine what he would think of today’s transfer fees.”

Ferguson will not accept second best finding Van der Sar successor

Sir Alex Ferguson will not accept second best in his pursuit of Edwin van der Sar's replacement.
The Manchester Evening News says Germany No1 Manuel Neuer is Fergie's top target.
Bayern Munich legend Oliver Kahn believes Neuer can become the best in the world at a club the size of United's.
United have signed £3.5m Dane Anders Lindegaard from Norwegian club Aalesunds and he has begun training at Carrington but is ineligible to play until after January 4.
But Lindegaard looks likely to step into Tomasz Kuszczak’s boots as deputy with the Pole set to leave in the summer as well.
Now the emphasis is bringing in internationals of the calibre of Neuer, Lyon’s French number one Hugo Loris or Ajax’s Dutch first choice Maarten Stekelenburg.

Bayer Leverkusen reveal amazing Man Utd escape clause in Adler contract

Bayer Leverkusen goalkeeper Rene Adler is so keen on a move to Manchester United - he has had it written into his current contract!
The Daily Mail says Adler raised eyebrows at Leverkusen when he insisted he would only accept their offer of new terms if it made provision for his lifelong ambition to play for Manchester United.
Bayer powerbrokers reluctantly agreed to insert an escape clause, allowing him to leave for Old Trafford, should United meet their valuation, and the 25-year old duly signed.
The asking price is believed to be close on £20million, but the prospect of an immediate, hassle-free release from a deal that runs until 2012 may appeal to United manager Sir Alex Ferguson.
Managing director Wolfgang Holzhauser confirmed the amazing demand: "It is an escape clause with a difference, because it only refers to one club. If United offer a certain amount, we have to let Rene go.
"He has always supported them, and he wanted to make sure the door was open, should they come calling. I know they have watched him quite a few times, so it may be difficult for us."
Former Germany striker and manager Rudi Voller, now Leverkusen sporting director, admitted their plans to open talks on a new deal would have to go on hold.
"We would like to offer him another contract, because we want to keep him here," he said. "But we know what we are up against. If United follow up their interest, there is not much we can do."

Sir Alex blaming Tevez on Rooney penalty miss!

Sir Alex Ferguson is blaming Carlos Tevez for Wayne Rooney's amazing spotkick miss against Arsenal.
The Red Devils chief labelled Sunderland's three-goal triumph over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge last month as "a perfect performance", emphasising his own players will have to be on their guard at Old Trafford.
Certainly they can ill-afford another penalty miss by Rooney, whose failure against Arsenal a fortnight ago attracted attention for the striker's bizarre zig-zag run-up.
"Carlos Tevez used to do it," recalled Ferguson.
"Wayne didn't do it in training but he did it at Ibrox and it worked. In fact he tried to hit exactly the same spot.
"The one against Arsenal was an unusual penalty for him to take.
"I don't think he has ever hit one over the bar. It was a bad miss from his point of view but fortunately we got through the game."

Ferguson wants his scouts to find him 3 future legends!

Sir Alex Ferguson has sent his scouts out to find him three future stars.
The Manchester Evening News says Ferguson intends to buy his replacements for the club's three legends Gary Neville, Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs.
The surviving trio from the Class of ‘92 remain on one-year deals at Old Trafford and are being considered for new contracts.
A question mark hangs over the future of injury-stricken right back Neville, who’ll be 36 in February, and his retirement is expected this summer.
Giggs, 37, and 36-year-old Scholes are set to stay on and accept new 12-month deals before the end of the season.
But finding successors for the trio, who have amassed over 2000 appearances between them, is paramount as United scour the globe for new recruits.
For Giggs, Tottenham ace Gareth Bale is the obvious choice for Ferguson, while in Inter Milan playmaker Wesley Sneijder he sees a successor for Scholes.
United are also watching Olympiakos right-back Vassilis Torosidis with a view to finding Neville’s replacement.

Nani: Defensive advice from Sir Alex lifted my game

Nani says he's a better player for improving the defensive side of his game.
Nani admits heeding advice from United manager Sir Alex about tracking back has made him a more dangerous player.
The Portuguese has learned as well that being successful with United is not all about camera-grabbing attacking play.
He revealed: "Sir Alex explained to me the importance of defending well and said I would end up being more dangerous in attack as a result. It is the truth."

Berbatov prefers to retire than leaving Man Utd!

Dimitar Berbatov says he'd sooner retire than leave Manchester United
The striker insists any move from United is a massive step down.
The Bulgarian, coming into the final 18 months of his contract, is not about to give up his No.9 shirt.
"I fought to have a chance to play for United and now I can only go down if I leave," Berbatov told the Telegraph.
"Why I should do this? It would be better to retire."

Man United interested in Romanian teenage goalkeeper. Another wonderkid in the making!

Manchester United are interested in Romanian teenage goalkeeper Laurentiu Constantin Branescu.
Branescu, 16, plays for Ramnicu Valcea in Romania and recently spent ten days trialling with United.
Juventus are threatening United's interest as they're preparing a January offer for Branescu.
Juve are willing to pay €750,000, with a 15 per cent sell-on fee and another €150,000 after his senior debut.

Man Utd watching Borussia Monchengladbach young talent

Manchester United are watching Borussia Monchengledbach midfielder Marco Reus.
The 21 year-old dynamo has attracted United scouts to Gladbach games in recent months.
Though no bid is imminent, United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has received glowing reports on Reus and told his scouts to keep tabs on him for the remainder of the season.

A Germany U21 international, Reus came through the ranks at Borussia Dortmund before dropping out of the Bundesliga to kickoff his pro career with Rot Weiss Ahlen.
The midfielder has been with Gladbach for the past two seasons.

Edwin van der Sar to retire at season's end.

Sir Alex Ferguson has declared he expects Edwin van der Sar to retire at season's end.
The Dutchman celebrated his 40th birthday earlier this year yet, apart from one mistake against West Brom in October, has still been performing to his usual high standards.
But Ferguson feels this campaign will be his last.
"We are planning for this being his last season," he said.
Given his vast experience, Van der Sar is bound to be an attractive proposition as a coach, although Ferguson admitted talks are still to take place on the matter.
"We have not discussed it," he said.
"But Edwin is a player who would be of interest in terms of his knowledge and standing in the game."

Udinese to Man Utd: Up bid for Alexis Sanchez and we will sell.

Udinese patron Giampaolo Pozzo says Manchester United must up their bid to land Alexis Sanchez.
It has been reported that Manchester United made an offer of €20m to coax the forward to Old Trafford.
“I’d say you need more than €20m to sign Sanchez,” Udinese owner Pozzo told the Gazzetta dello Sport.
“In any case, I don’t think this’ll be an issue. He is a world class player, but needs a few years to mature in Udine so he can make the real step up in quality.
“When he is able to score 10-12 goals per season, then we can give the all-clear for a sale.
“As for the other players, the January transfer window is not only closed, but also bricked up. We are not selling anybody and I don’t see the need to sign anyone either.
“Gokhan Inler won’t be leaving and neither will Antonio Floro Flores.”

Park Ji-Sung will retire from international football after Asian Cup.

Park Ji-Sung is set to retire from international football after next month's Asian Cup, according to the player's father.

The midfielder, signed from PSV Eindhoven in 2005, scored the only goal in United's 1-0 win over Arsenal on Monday to continue his impressive form this season.

Park captained his country to the last 16 of the 2010 World Cup but according to the player's father, he will turn his back on international football after this January's Asian Cup.

"Ji Sung said before the World Cup in South Africa that the Asian Cup would be his last national tournament," his father Park Sung-Jong told the Asian Football Confederation's website on Friday.

"Now, ahead of the Asian Cup, there is no reason for him to change his mind.
"Ji-Sung said, 'When I give way, players like Lee Chung-yong will appear. They don't have to think I should be there.' "

The 29-year-old could miss six Premier League games and an FA Cup match whilst he is in Qatar for the Asian Cup, and manager Sir Alex Ferguson admits the South Korean will be missed.

"It is shame he has to go, but there's nothing we can do about that," Ferguson told reporters after the victory against Arsenal.

Rooney has confessed he's a Susan Boyle fan

Wayne Rooney has confessed he's a Susan Boyle fan!
Rooney listens to Subo on his iPod to relax himself in the moments before performing as the biggest name in British football.
Rooney said: “I have the same things on my iPod as always really. Stereophonics, Mumford & Sons, King of Leon.
“Shaun Wright-Phillips did my ipod at the World Cup. There’s about 10,000 songs on it but there’s only about three songs that I actually listen to!
“Lately for some reason, before the last few games, I have been listening to Susan Boyle. Her album’s really good and it relaxes me.
“When we’re in the hotel before we go for our pre-match meal, I always put Stereophonics on. Then in the dressing room, I tend to listen to more relaxing music like Susan Boyle but it changes.
“A lot of the foreign lads listen to rap music which is okay but before a game I don’t really enjoy listening to that.”

Qatar Holdings to kick Glazers out from Man Utd by spending £1.5 Billion

Manchester United are the subject of takeover interest - to the tune of £1.5 BILLION - from Qatar Holdings.
The Sunday Mirror says Qatar Holdings, an investment vehicle for the Qatari royal family, are pursuing the £1.5billion takeover of Manchester United. The Gulf state of Qatar has already landed the right to stage the 2022 World Cup finals in an audacious international coup.
The Qataris have also accumulated a huge range of trophy assets in England.
These include the Harrods store and spectacular London properties such as One Hyde Park, the Shard of Glass and the US Embassy in Grosvenor Square.
Last week the Qatar Foundation, the charity wing of the ruling family, bought the sponsorship rights to the Barcelona shirt. It was a declaration of their intention of getting Qatar accepted as a global football brand.
Qatar Holdings is the third largest shareholder in car-maker VW and has a stake in Porsche.
The Arabs can satisfy any request for proof of funding from the Glazer family in the United States and are also willing to fund a massive transfer fund for manager Sir Alex Ferguson.
The scene could be set for the Glazers to leave with a massive profit. Qatar Holdings have been linked with a host of European giants including Barcelona and Real Madrid.
However, United have always been top of their wish list.
The purchase of United would leave the club debt free and the most powerful club in the current transfer market.
And even neighbours City, with all their wealth, may find it hard to compete with the potential red revolution.

Ferdinand steals Park's Christmas gift by fans!

Manchester United teammates are raiding Park Ji-sung's locker for all the sweets South Korean fans have sent him for Christmas!
Rio Ferdinand knows a free bag of sweets when he spots them in the Manchester United dressing room.
Devoted fans have sent gifts to Ji-Sung Park.
Rio tweeted: “Thanks to the South Korean fans who sent us these for Xmas!
“The whole squad will enjoy them!”

Man Utd decide on Hugo Lloris as Van der Sar replacement

Manchester United are chasing Olympique Lyon goalkeeper Hugo Lloris.
The Daily Star Sunday says Lloris is Manchester United’s new target to take over from Edwin van der Sar as No.1 at Old Trafford.
French sources claim high-level talks over Lloris were held in the last few days at United’s Carrington training headquarters.
The keeper, 24 on Boxing Day, has a transfer valuation of £20million.
Lloris captained France when they defeated England at Wembley last month and has been regarded for some time as one of Europe’s best young keepers.

New Man Utd deal for Anderson worth £70,000-a-week

Anderson has enjoyed a bumper pay-rise at Manchester United.
The Daily Star says the Brazilian midfielder had repeatedly been linked with the Old Trafford exit after becoming unhappy at his limited first-team role.
But Anderson has now signed a new four-and-a-half- year deal worth around £70,000 a week and claims he wouldn’t swap United for anyone else.
AC Milan and Lazio were both hoping to take advantage of Anderson’s frustration with his lack of playing time at United.
But Anderson scored in their recent Champions League draw with Valencia and then started the win against Arsenal which sent United top of the league.

Mourinho asks Real Madrid chiefs to step up efforts to sign Javier Hernandez

Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho has asked the club’s management to redouble their efforts to try and land Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez in January, according to the Mexican record.com.mx Web site.

Gonzalo Higuain's injury and the apparent lack of faith of Karim Benzema has left Mourinho short up-front, and although Los Blancos have been linked with moves for VfL Wolfsburg hit-man Edin Dzeko and Athletic Bilbao front-manFernando Llorente , Hernandez is said to be the coach’s preferred target.

Real's interest in Hernandez was first reported last month. However, it would be an audacious effort to even try and land the Mexican. Ferguson snapped up the 22-year-old from Chivas Guadalajara before the World Cup, and he has adapted well to his new club, scoring a total of five goals in the Premier League and Champions League so far.

Match Analysis and Highlight: Manchester United 1-0 Arsenal: Park-fect header sends United back to the top

Manchester United came out on top in a game where neither side played their best football.

Sir Alex Ferguson sacrificed Dimitar Berbatov to go with a 4-5-1 / 4-3-3 formation. Paul Scholes was not fit enough to make the squad, so the side essentially picked itself after the decision about formation.

Arsene Wenger kept the usual 4-2-3-1 shape. Cesc Fabregas was only fit for the bench, and Tomas Rosicky was picked ahead of Robin van Persie in the central attacking midfield role.

The game took a long time to really get going. It was scrappy because of the concession of too many free-kicks in the central midfield zone (Arsenal more at fault than United here) and too many misplaced passes from both sides.

That was the main reason for the lack of goalmouth action, and it’s also worth considering that both managers selected slightly more conservative XIs than they could have done – if Berbatov and van Persie were playing, the midfield battle would have been less congested – instead we had six central midfielders who weren’t really looking to create, though Michael Carrick did well in the first half, and Anderson was good throughout.

Wide zones

With nothing happening in the middle, we had to look wide. Arsenal’s wide players often made diagonal runs into the centre of the pitch (and occasionally to the opposite flank) which allowed the full-backs forward well, though the crossing of Gael Clichy and Bacary Sagna was disappointing.

United’s two wide players should get some credit for that – Park was typically hard-working but Nani has also become a good player defensively. There was a stark contrast with Arsenal’s equivalent players – Andrei Arshavin and Samir Nasri played higher up the pitch, and then Arshavin dwelt on the ball to concede an unnecessary free-kick when he did find himself on the edge of his own box.

The energy of Park paid off most obviously going the other way, however, and his stooped backwards header for the only goal of the game was excellent. It came from a (deflected) Nani cross, and Nani was the best of the four wingers in an attacking sense – he also won the penalty in the second half.

Goalkeepers

The distribution of the goalkeepers was an interesting difference between the sides. Wojciech Szczesny had a good debut overall, but his distribution was wayward throughout – sometimes it looked as if he hadn’t even considered that his side would want to retain possession of the ball, and simply hoofed it high into the air towards no-one in particular.

This was nothing more than inexperience and he improved in this respect after half-time (possibly after a word from his manager) but it’s not unreasonable to suggest that Arsenal’s passing, which was amazingly poor by their standards, suffered because they weren’t able to get into a steady rhythm from the back.

Edwin van der Sar had definitely been given instructions what to do with the ball, though – at various points he thumped quick, pinpoint balls downfield for Rooney to pick up and take on Arsenal’s centre-backs, as if United were trying to do what Spurs and Braga have done so well in recent weeks – hit Arsenal with direct attacks from back to front.

Arsenal were scared of Rooney. Although he didn’t turn in a stunning performance and his most notable contribution was a penalty miss, Arsenal defended much deeper than usual – probably because of both (a) his raw pace in behind and (b) the fact that Arsenal’s high line was massacred by Rooney’s brilliant false nine role in the previous fixture between the sides.

Second half

Arsenal were better after half-time. They moved the ball more quickly and more ambitiously, and they had a spell when they should have got back into the game. Marouane Chamakh didn’t react quick enough to convert their best chance on 56 minutes, and a double substitution came soon after.

Robin van Persie and Cesc Fabregas replaced Rosicky and Jack Wilshere (who was Arsenal’s brightest player but had picked up an injury) and Arsenal moved to a more attacking version of their shape, that became 4-4-2 when van Persie moved upfront.

They didn’t look particularly good after this change, however, and throughout the game Arsenal lacked invention on the ball from individual attackers, as well as quality movement in the final third.
United’s back four all had superb games, winning 19 of 28 challenges between them. Rio Ferdinand’s return to the side to replace Jonny Evans has resulted in United’s “average goals conceded per game” statistic being halved.

Conclusion

Neither played as well as their manager would have hoped, but United remain the side more able to get results in this situation.

In various games this season (West Brom, Newcastle, here) Arsenal’s passing ability has completely deserted them. Arshavin was particularly wasteful, Rosicky couldn’t find space to work in, and the substitutes had little influence.

United also lacked invention, with only Nani consistently providing an attacking threat – but after going ahead every member of the side played their role excellently, summed up by the fact that Ferguson only made one change to the side, and that was after 85 minutes.
