The Deloitte Football Money League sees the two Spanish clubs secure the top spots but mainly due to the continuing decline of the pound against the euro.
My concern are not on the Spanish giants..but on Manchester United! MUFC came third in the list. 3rd!!! I know 3rd is nothing to be proud of..Let us look at the explanation.
All the English clubs were impacted by the continuing depreciation of the pound against the euro and the scale of this is shown by the fact that if exchange rates remained at their June 2007 level, United would be top of the money league table.

Arsenal FC- 5th richest
MUFC dropped to third spot following Barcelona's extremely successful season. A simple reason why Premier League clubs are not top of the list though they dominate the revenue chart. The two Spanish giants have one significant advantage in revenue terms in that they negotiate their own individual television rights while the Premier League have a collective deal which is shared much more equally among all 20 clubs.
Chelsea FC- 6th richest
Manchester saw commercial -, matchday - and broadcasting revenue all increase and total a revenue of €327 million. Yet even this was not enough to retain last year’s runner-up position in the Money League, with further deterioration in the Sterling exchange rate compounding the effect of Barcelona’s more rapid revenue growth.
Barcelona- 2nd richest
The most notable change in the list, based on clubs' revenue excluding transfer fees, sees Arsenal leapfrog Chelsea with the Gunners recording a 7 per cent rise in revenue to £224million compared to their London rivals' £206million - a 3 per cent fall in revenue.
Real Madrid has topped the 'rich list' for the last five years but Barcelona's unprecedented success last season where they won five trophies has seen them overtake Manchester United despite a 9 per cent rise in income at Old Trafford.
Newcastle- 20th richest
Liverpool FC - 7th richest
Liverpool, who enjoyed an 11 per cent revenue increase, rose a place to seventh above AC Milan. There are seven English sides in the top 20 in Europe -Tottenham are 15th, Manchester City19th and Newcastle 20th.
Manchester City- 19th richest
Excuse me...Newcastle came at 20th richest in the world? A Championship club among the richest in the world? No doubt, we have to salute the club management in England.
The overwhelming dominance of Real Madrid and Barcelona in Spain is shown by the fact that no other La Liga side occupy a top 20 place.
