Patrice Evra believes club legend Eric Cantona paved the way for Frenchman to come to Old Trafford.
Cantona was somewhat of a trailblazer, departing his homeland for Leeds United in 1992 before enjoying a highly successful five season with United up until 1997.
Evra feels that ‘The King’ opened the door for players from France to make their way to England and Manchester in particular and thanked him for doing so.
"I already knew Cantona was 'The King', but I really discovered who he was when I arrived here," Evra told the club's official website.
"He is a legend. If French football players like me succeed at United, it is him who first opened the doors for us. We will never thank him enough for that.
"During my first season, I watched lots of Eric's DVDs and told myself, 'You now know what the United fans are expecting from the French players'."
