Gibson may stay with Man Utd after Sunderland drop pursuit

Darron Gibson could stay with Manchester United this coming season.

The Mail on Sunday says the Ireland midfielder could find he has more opportunities at United if he ends up staying, with doubts about Darren Fletcher's health resurfacing.

Fletcher will miss the club's tour of the United States as he tries to get himself ready for the new campaign.

The rest of the squad fly to America tomorrow but Fletcher will spend three weeks on an individual 'conditioning programme'.

Meanwhile, Sunderland have ended their pursuit of Manchester United midfielder Darron Gibson.

The Mail on Sunday says Sunderland have pulled out of the deal to sign Gibson from Manchester United after the midfielder refused to drop his £40,000-a-week wage demands.

Chairman Niall Quinn ran out of patience with the long-running negotiations with Gibson's agents and has decided against reuniting him with former team-mates John O'Shea and Wes Brown on Wearside.
