Sir Alex has backed Roberto Mancini in his battle with Carlos Tevez.
The Scot insists that Manchester City's boss deserves nothing but praise.
Mancini has been involved in a drawn-out saga with his Argentine striker after claiming the player refused to come on during the Champions League clash in Munich.
But ahead of tomorrow's Manchester derby, United chief Ferguson said Mancini has displayed his strength throughout the affair.
Tevez appeared before City's disciplinary hearing yesterday.
And Ferguson declared: "I think Roberto has shown his mettle dealing with a lot of situations in recent times. He has done fantastically well.
"Forget Carlos Tevez played for us. It has nothing to do with Carlos Tevez. It is about the decision-making of a manager. His handling of situations.
"I find it amazing he has not had enough praise for that. It all centred around what they were going to do. But he acted, he did his job. I think he has handled it really well."
Ferguson had his own problems with Tevez and his advisers before the player finally left Old Trafford and joined City in July 2009. So he knows what he has had to handle.
Fergie admitted: "Management today is a complex situation in terms of the type of player we have to deal with.
"A lot of players are dominated by their agent. You get agents who buy their groceries, do their travel, polish their boots!
"It is different from when I started. It is more difficult to deal with."
What Ferguson must deal with on the pitch is the new challenge posed by Mancini and his team in terms of a battle for the title.
It is the latest and greatest challenge to Ferguson's domination of the domestic game.
He added: "We always accept a challenge at this club. We have had that time and time again. I enjoy the challenge. It is the type of challenge that we have accepted well over the years.
"An emerging team like City have gone top but it is early days.
"There are a lot of winning posts along the way. One is Sunday.
