Danny Welbeck believes the next generation of England players vying for a spot in the squad for Euro 2012 represents an "exciting time" for the country.
The 20-year-old hopes to be involved with team-mates Phil Jones and Chris Smalling, as well as older heads Ashley Young and Wayne Rooney, as part of a new look side which could also feature Arsenal's Jack Wilshere and Everton's Jack Rodwell in the engine room.
Welbeck told BBC Sport: "It's very exciting times really. Obviously, there have been a lot of youngsters picked in a few recent squads. All of us are just looking forward to playing our part and doing our best to improve."
The forward featured as a second-half substitute in the 1-0 victory against world champions Spain last week but an injury forced him to miss the slender win over Sweden on Tuesday.
He added: "I was gutted not to be involved in the Sweden game. That's football and it's life. I've got to deal with it and come back stronger.
"Yes, definitely [want to play in the Ukraine and Poland], but I just want to get my mind set on having a good season for United and carry on improving myself as a player. Hopefully, I will then get picked for the Euros in the summer."
Meanwhile, back at home United need to claw back a five-point deficit from the rivals City at the top of the Premier League.
"We are not panicking," Welbeck added. "We are just going to keep playing our game and not looking at other teams. We will continue going into every game looking to get three points."
