Manchester United have been handed a huge boost after it emerged Danny Welbeck intends to sign a new five-year contract.

Welbeck has just 18 months left on his current deal and earns a fraction of that of his other first team stars. But in his new terms the 20-year-old will treble his wages to £45,000 a week.
Welbeck, who spent last season on loan at Sunderland, will follow the likes of Chris Smalling, Tom Cleverley and Javier Hernandez in committing their futures to United.
The Sun reports that the striker's new deal will include incremental rises that could ultimately reach £65,000 a week if he hits appearance and goal targets.
Welbeck has forced his way above £30.75million man Dimitar Berbatov, with the Bulgarian himself out of contract at the same time as the young pretender to his place.
