Danny Drinkwater joins Leicester City

Leicester City have landed promising midfielder Danny Drinkwater from Manchester United for an undisclosed fee, subject to Football League approval.

"Danny is a player we have monitored for a long time, so we are delighted to bring him to King Power Stadium,” Pearson told Leicester’s official website.

"He is a player who will bring energy and creativity to the team. We have been looking to strengthen the squad since joining and this signing begins that process."

Born in Manchester and a graduate of the United academy, Drinkwater has already attained plenty of Championship experience on loan spells with Cardiff City, Watford and, most recently, Barnsley.

This season in particular has seen Drinkwater reveal his potential, making 18 appearances for the Tykes, including an outstanding display in their 2-1 win at King Power Stadium last Saturday, which included assists for both goals.

"Danny is a young and hungry player and his ambitions match those of the Club," Pearson added.

"He fits the criteria and standards that we set here and we look forward to Danny joining up with his new colleagues and having a positive impact on the team."
The 21-year-old playmaker becomes Nigel Pearson's first signing during his second spell in charge of the Foxes, agreeing terms on a contract until June 2015.
