Danny Drinkwater joins Leicester City

Leicester City have landed promising midfielder Danny Drinkwater from Manchester United for an undisclosed fee, subject to Football League approval.

"Danny is a player we have monitored for a long time, so we are delighted to bring him to King Power Stadium,” Pearson told Leicester’s official website.

"He is a player who will bring energy and creativity to the team. We have been looking to strengthen the squad since joining and this signing begins that process."

Born in Manchester and a graduate of the United academy, Drinkwater has already attained plenty of Championship experience on loan spells with Cardiff City, Watford and, most recently, Barnsley.

This season in particular has seen Drinkwater reveal his potential, making 18 appearances for the Tykes, including an outstanding display in their 2-1 win at King Power Stadium last Saturday, which included assists for both goals.

"Danny is a young and hungry player and his ambitions match those of the Club," Pearson added.

"He fits the criteria and standards that we set here and we look forward to Danny joining up with his new colleagues and having a positive impact on the team."
The 21-year-old playmaker becomes Nigel Pearson's first signing during his second spell in charge of the Foxes, agreeing terms on a contract until June 2015.

"But he has developed and is a lot physically stronger. He's done a lot more things than the youth team boys and that's why we're getting him out on loan again."

The midfielder moved to Scunthorpe yesterday.

"It is every kid’s dream. Realistically, will it happen? I am not sure but I’d like to give it my best shot, come here, get the games, do the best I can and see where that takes me. I have been in the Reserves now for two full seasons - this would have been my third - and I think it is getting a bit easy for me because we are playing against the same teams every year. Sunderland have conmpleted the signing of a second Manchester United player this summer as John O'Shea has joined Wes Brown in moving to the Stadium of Light, with the Irishman penning a four-year deal at the Stadium of Light.

The 30-year-old has moved to the Black Cats for an undisclosed fee and will remain a Sunderland player until the summer of 2015.

O'Shea will link up with ex-United captain Steve Bruce on Wearside, as well as his former team-mates Brown, Kieran Richardson, Phil Bardsley and Fraizer Campbell.

Speaking to the club's official website about the move, O'Shea said: "Once I'd heard reports about the club and the people here, the ambitions and what the manager was all about, it was the only place I was going to come to."

Bruce is delighted that the Irish international agreed a move to Sunderland and is hopeful his experience will benefit the squad this season.

He said: "John has been a solid, consistent part of Manchester United's squad for well over a decade which goes to show the fantastic pedigree of player we have signed.

"He is a wonderful professional both on and off the field and his wealth of experience and versatility will be great attributes for us. I'm delighted with the players we've been able to secure ahead of the new season."

Sir Alex Ferguson also paid tribute to his outgoing defender, who had been at Old Trafford for 12 years, and believes the move to Wearside is right for him.

Sir Alex told Manchester United's official website: "John has been an outstanding servant to the club, since he broke into the first team almost a decade ago.

"His versatility, calmness under pressure and his commitment to the cause at United means that fans will remember him with great affection.

"John has won so many medals – and has deserved every one of them. He epitomises our club’s approach as a team. After so many years of service to United, I’m pleased that John has found a career opportunity which will deliver the number of games he deserves.

"We wish John every success in his new life. Steve Bruce is a manager that knows how to blend youth and experience and I’m sure he has John earmarked for a senior role in trying to take Sunderland on from their finish last season."

Sunderland complete signing of Wes Brown

Sunderland have completed the capture of Wes Brown from Manchester United.

Youngster Nicky Ajose joins Peterborough

Nicky Ajose has signed a four-year deal with Peterborough United.

The 19-year old has departed English champions Manchester United for the Championship club who had been after the winger for a little while.

Ajose becomes the third player to land at London Road this week from Old Trafford, following the loan deals of Ryan Tunnicliffe and Scott Wootton, and manager Darren Ferguson, son of Sir Alex, is excited about the signing.

"Nicky has good pace, is two-footed and a very good finisher,” he said.

"He has a lot of potential, has good pedigree and was successful during his loan spell with Bury last season, scoring a lot of goals in League Two.

"Craig Mackail-Smith has left and I am not going to be putting any pressure on the lad to be the replacement or anything like that, but he has that pace, he plays on the shoulder and he can also link play.

"He can play wide if we went to a three up top and I believe he is very good signing for the club."

Manchester United confirm signing of goalkeeper David de Gea from Atletico Madrid

Manchester United have confirmed the signing of Atletico Madrid goalkeeper David de Gea on a five-year deal.

The Spaniard had long been linked with a move to Old Trafford following the retirement of Edwin van der Sar at the end of last season.

And De Gea has now spoken of his delight at finally completing his move to the club, admitting the interest from the Red Devils made him want to work even harder.

He told MUTV: “I feel very proud and I can’t wait to start playing here.

“When a club the size of Manchester United comes in for you it obviously makes you very, very happy.
"I saw their interest as an extra motivation to work even harder to show off my ability.

"It’s a great privilege to be part of a club like United and I'm keen to do my best and show what I can do.”

The transfer fee has not yet been announced but it is expected to be in the region of £18 million, which would make De Gea the most expensive goalkeeper in English football.

The youngster has attracted the interest of United since making his breakthrough into the Atletico first team in 2009, and he has since gone on to play a big part in Spain’s success at the European Under-21 Championships, where he conceded just two goals.
