According to a study released, forward Wayne Rooney is the division's ultimate tweeter.
Rooney and team-mate Rio Ferdinand were well ahead of competition with over 1.5 million followers each. Manchester City forward Sergio Aguero was third with over a million and Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshire was the fourth most followed player with almost 900,000.
Despite a strong showing from some United players, the Manchester club ranked eighth among all Premier League clubs overall despite having 19 million Facebook followers.
The Red Devils are among three teams in the division without an iPhone app, and research found United using social media forums only sparingly to link content instead of interacting with fans.
